One of the nicest things about sending Connor off to school is that his new friends become an extended family for him and sometimes us.
Back in September, we shared a lively lunch with a boy young man guy who lives down the hall from C. This friend,, who goes by the nickname of Lucky, is always referred, to by anyone who knows him, as "amazing".
He is smart, funny, joyful, kind and compassionate. He can dance as if there are springs on his feet, he looks you in the eye and listens before saying things that are comforting and enlightening. He is as much like a 18 year old as he is like a very wise 81 year old.
And he can't weigh much more than 95 pounds.
This means that he is near frozen in Elmira, or if he is not, he is wearing 95 pounds of clothing.
And we can't have that.
So he can have some cashmere:
It's knit from that bulky 14 ply cashmere that I dyed ages ago and did not know what to do with - it was clearly waiting for me to meet Lucky. He had wanted something in the purple of their school colors, and I thought of overdyeing, but this blue is so vibrant and Lucky is a real force of nature.
The 7' long scarf is from the Aran Scarf pattern found here (I added the bobbles). The hat is a modification of Happy Trails, with some of the scarfs cables/bobbles for interest. The pom-pom is slightly wonky, but I think it works:
I sent it off today and now I have a list of fabulous girls that need hats/scarves too.
* Don't ask, just wait for the shouting in the comments
I love that hat and scarf, but I wanna know where the hell are the hats I knit 2 years ago with the effin' pom-poms?!?!?!

He is noble indeed if he will wear bobbles.

I knew it would be Cookie. A little disappointed, though. I thought it said "commence with the pom-poms" and I thought we were going to cheer the sale of Chumbucket Acres.

I have to agree with Kitten in that I was hoping for the departure of the CB's. Oh well.
Lucky is indeed lucky. Hopefully the blue will match him even if it isn't purple.

I was hoping it was a chumbucket celebration, too...
