The Mr. received his latest issue of Monsters from the Vault today. He was ecstatic and will celebrate the end of Sucky Summer School by reading it in a few weeks. And when he does sit down to read it, he will thank me a million times over for gifting him a subscription.
The mailman was full of surprises, as I received a package too. It contained:
My very own spun for me yarn.
Weeks ago, Cookie offered to spin for me during the Tour De Fleece on Ravelry where she is the fearless leader of Team Crankypants. I ordered a big ball of roving and when she received it, she didn't change her email address, fake her death or deny ever receiving the package. Instead, she set to spindling away and this little skein is just a taste of what's to come.
In a few weeks (or next Tuesday knowing Cookie) I'll receive enough of this gorgeous yarn to make a shawl, not just any shawl, but a shawl of my own design in one of a kind yarn, lovingly spun in the colors that make my heart skip a beat.
Her spinning for me is the ultimate act of love and kindness. My own adventures in spindling have been sad and frustrating. My lack of hand eye coordination, the inability of my left thumb to assist in any way and dogs who think that any spinning object is a new toy for them are all to blame. I may purchase a wheel someday, but not someday soon.
I know that when I get to knit this yarn, I will love every inch of it and the friend that made it for me.
And while I'm not spinning along with Cookie and the rest of my friends, one comment led to another and thanks to Stacey I now have my own button:
I have never been prouder, I may have to go to confession, but it is worth it to have such friends.
In other news, my Bluebird is soaking and #2 Son is at the ready with the blocking wires. The boy has been having a great week at his summer program. He's reconnected with a few of his old friends (the upside of changing schools so often) and has fallen hard and fast for his brother's school. This is good, and he says he won't take German and put me through a whole month without him like his brother did.
Tomorrow, pictures of the lovely Bluebird, a full morning of Dr. appointments and the start of a sock.
Patron Saint Team Crankypants - love it.

Awww, that Cookie...

Did I ever tell you that you're not allowed to look in the Team CrankyPants thread? I've been posting updates that you can't see if you're going to be surprised later. Yes, I know, I'm mean. :p
I am so glad that you like it. I'm so sorry that it's such a weirdo length of pretend yarn... and that my hand writing is so ghastly.
Oh, and it was a big huge mountain of roving.

That Cookie spins a mean laceweight doesn't she? I can't believe she does it on a spindle. WOW! I can't wait to see your design, but you have enough going right now. Maybe when the weather gets colder. Take care.

I managed about 8 inches of crappy yarn on a spindle - that was the end of my spindling career. How the heck does she to get SO MUCH DONE????
Good luck at the Doctor. We'll be keeping a good thought for you!

Love the yarn, perfect colors.

That's exactly what Team Crankypants needed, a patron saint. Love it!
I've been seeing Cookie's updates, and I just gotta say, WOW. After she posted the last one I asked her to adopt me.
What a fantastic idea - handspun by Cookie, designed by Joan lace.

Cookie is a natural and every inch of her yarn is created with love.

That Cookie is something else. We're in awe of what she's doing and all on a spindle. Love the yarn colors, they look like early summer greens. Can't wait to see what you design.

Yeah... you can't look at the thread. That Cookie is AMAZING!! The color is incredible and I'm sure your shawl will be too.
p.s. She told me to come to you... the Patron Saint and Fiber Godmother for yarn suggestions for the Honeybee and Morning Glory stoles. I'm just so lost.

Wow, gorgeous yarn! She's been spinning her arms off to good effect.
Hopefully summer school will end soon for the Mister!

For the record, I'll be faking my own death after I've sent you the rest of it. I'm just sayin'...

I think your shawl is going to be fantastic and probably glow with all that love!

Joan, there is no way I could agree that you have hand/eye coordination problems, not with the beautiful knits you turn out!
Go confess that you put yourself down!!!

Cookie pinned a note to my collar and pointed me over here. (I think she followed me, too, to make sure I didn't get lost.)
Isn't she a wonder, spindling all that laceweight?
And I'm happy to meet our patron saint!
