This morning, at the unholy hour of 6AM, I got up to make breakfast for #2 Son before he headed off to Scout camp for the week. #2 has been looking forward to this week for ages, he loves this type of camp in the mountains where he can work on a few merit badges, swim in the lake and unplug for awhile.
He has been texting back and forth with a girl from school. Last night she said, "I will die w/o U". He said, "Sweet, but U won't".
To me (who is hoping that she'll move on while he's gone) he said I will have plenty to do with no boys in the house and The Mr. to take care of. He knows that I plan to clean both his and his brother's rooms - flip the mattresses, polish the furniture, sort clothes, shampoo the rugs.
But he did ask what I planned to knit this week and I told him that I'd likely work on two or three or six things. To that he suggested that I just stick to one project and try to finish that project in the week that he is gone. He said I should treat it like a merit badge and asked that I concentrate on Bluebird since it is a project he likes.
Instead of heading back to bed like I thought I would, I knit:
And as the day has past, it has grown and I should finish the first border sometime before bedtime.
I might be able to earn two badges this week.
He sounds like a pretty cool kid! :) The stole is looking fabulous.

Who wants food at sixa?
I'm so proud of that boy. Hopefully, that girl will wander off and start bothering someone else this week.
Happy knitting/carpet shampooing!

Your boys are both so sensible.
The bluebird stole looks great! As usual.
My lovely neighbors set off firecrackers until 3am. They're illegal here too, not to mention our hills are covered in tinder. Fireworks need to be banned and enforced.

I love your son's attitude. He is mature beyond his years. In a good way.
I will be looking forward to your bluebird progress every day. Enjoy your quiet week.

God I love your kids. And also I'm thrilled that I had boys. (Stepdaughter told me this weekend that she likes "the chase" and that guys who are "too nice" and already love her, she's not interested in. Save me.)
I read Romi's story about the bluebirds. I hope your robins around your shoulders keep you safe. I wish there was an eagle stole for the DH.

I like that he as a favorite. Two merit badges would impress him, don't you think?

I love your sons. So practical and grounded. The response to the girl is priceless. Happy "thank GOD the holiday weekend is over and the idiots are gone" Monday.

What a sensible boy. Good luck on your "merit badges".

At least he shows interest. Mine just ignore anything to do with knitting. You know one day they might get poked with a needle.
I struggle with multiple projects too. I have far too many things on the go at the moment.

Strange, my children mutter similar things about my multiple projects, but they don't have the comprehension that they too might 'do a merit badge'.
Lace is a 'cerebral' matter for me only, I wouldn't attempt it without a quiet house, and as the Mr and I both work from home, I don't see that happening anytime soon. However I do have a pattern, and some beautiful angora wool picked up at a sale a few weeks ago - I have mental plans even if they don't substantiate to deeds - yet.

Sounds like your son has a very good head on his shoulders, for someone of any age, but especially given his age.
I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing more about your Bluebird stole as it grows. Happy knitting. :)
