Two weeks ago, this "invitation" was placed in our mailbox:
I have never met said Rick and Becky and I have no idea what goes in an Alabama Slammer. The Mr. did ask around about Beer Pong, only to find out from #2 Son that he completely got the rules of play wrong.
Needless to say, we did not RSVP in the affirmative and pack up our tent. In fact, since this party started across the pond 5 hours ago, I've called the sheriff about the fireworks that have been landing in the woods and the water and our yard.
A Deputy stopped by to completely out me on my crankiness, but the people who live over here have my back. And since the hillbillies have started lighting things up again, I may have to make another call. It will be a long night for me and my doggies.
We hates people.
(Please bear in mind that fireworks are illegal in New York State and that there are countless parks and venues that put on an impressive display for the masses. Grand Island does a very nice job here at the amusement park, as does Tonawanda, Riverside Park in Buffalo and the Friendship Festival near the Peace Bridge. All these are visible from my driveway but safely away from my roof.)
Anyway, so goes the holiday.
But I did get to hold a week old baby (babies are not people so we loves them) and today was blessedly free from chores. #2 Son is heading off to camp in the morning and when it was time to pack his gear, he said he could handle it and he did, even down to initialing his socks.
I've been knitting. It was a little bit here, a little bit there, but nothing was holding my attention today. And then I saw this patternand read Romi's comments about it.
I'm sure that you all know that I have a thing for birds, not exactly bluebirds, more the birds that frequent my yard and especially my robins:
There are at least three of them who seem to live here, they are the first birds I see every morning and they are a constant in my day. So it seems fitting to knit this lovely design in a color that compliments my robins:
Dream in Color Baby in Cinnamon Girl (the color is more brown IRL)and I have just enough copper lined beads for the edges.
Gotta go now, it seems to be time to hose down the roof.
PS - if anyone wants Rick or Becky's phone number- email me.
I'm fed up with people setting off fireworks! I was in Houston for a wedding and someone had stayed at my place to watch my 4 dogs and 4 of my fosters (2 fosters were at my sister's house).
I came home...there are fireworks ALL over my front yard, patios and back yard! I'm soooo frustrated! Thank GOD I asked the my friend to give them all an Acepromazine and put them to bed at 7 pm that night!

I know what you mean. We have a small shihtzu who is barely a year old. We wanted a nice quiet holiday. No one was coming over and we had some BBQ on the grill. Dog enjoyed the meats! But in the evening when I tend to take him for a walk a kid no older than 16 decided to light a firecracker and throw it. I am deaf and did not hear his shout to move. Well my poor Shadow went nuts. Pulled the leash out of my hand and went after the kid. My husband called the police and his parents had the gull, the utter gull to say well if she was paying attention it would never had happened! We had to deal with a small dog whimpering and crying all night. Gee what a nice quiet holiday!
On another note, I am looking at all the beautiful knitted lace pieces and I am wondering if anyone has any good patterns for a knitter who wants to learn lace knitting? A small project like a scarf that can teach me the basics? for example I have never done SSK or Psso.Any tips and whatever you have is very well appreciated!

Your title reminded me of my little niece. She was helping set up for outdoorsiness, and was so pleased to help carry what she called, "Stinky Torches."
The robin lace pattern is so beautiful, and your teaser has me excited to see more.

Never mind the 'rules', I'm still wondering what 'beer pong' IS. although not spending much time on it.
Hillbilly Acres..sigh.
Fresh, new babies, sweet.
What a gorgeous stole design and your choice of colour is beautiful (visualizing a little more brown :^)
I'm hoping today is quiet for you, I'm also hoping some of 'those' neighbors have small children banging drums close to their hungover ears. The drumming sounds not reaching your ears :^)

We hate Rick and Becky.
Who on earth would have a neighborhood party and tell people to bring a tent and stay over? Even my redneck/hillbilly locals don't do such silly things.
I'm sorry you got outed. Next time, tell dispatch to advise the officers that visiting you would be a bad idea. I swear some of those boys never think.
Knitting with fake baby yarn after holding a real baby. I guess that's better than the other way round. ;^)

Wow. A frat party, only in your back yard...
Makes my little cookout look pretty tame.

Now you've got me wondering, what ARE the rules for beer pong??? And why are you being so cranky and unreasonable about fireworks being shot at your house and scaring your lovely dogs :)

We have lived in our house for ten years, each year we receive an invitation to go the 4th of July block party, and every year we decline the loud neighbors, firecrackers, drinking, and loud brawling out in the street until all sorts of hours in the mornings. Should be a place we folk could store those folks for this holiday, maybe pick one state and give them a one way ticket on a gray hound bus.
Have a very happy 4th of July. I'll be in bed before the smoke clears the air!
